Daniel Hannan thinks we’re “outstandingly meritorious”

Posted on: August 7, 2009

A warm thank you to MEP (and YouTube star) Daniel Hannan for his warn remarks about CEI and our own Myron Ebell in particular on the Telegraph’s website today:

Americans, like everyone else, are generally wiser than their politicians. But my paean of praise to their third president elicited a fascinating response from an exceptionally clever and thoughtful man called Myron Ebell of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. (The CEI, by the way, is an outstandingly meritorious outfit, even by the standards of conservative Washington, in that it never makes the mistake of confusing the pro-business case with the pro-market case. But I digress). Myron was kind enough to write at some length explaining that it was Jefferson’s predecessor, John Adams, who was, perversely, the true Jeffersonian.

For any cave dwellers out there, here is the video that made Hannan a household name among free marketeers in the UK and increasingly here in the good ole US of A as well:

When is the last time you saw a video clip of a speech in the European Parliament that had almost 2.5 million views? It’s unlikely to happen again any time soon, unless it’s either another Hannan speech or an appearance by this lady.

Here’s another snippet of an entertaining speech he made on the night of the last election for local offices and European Parliament seats in June. Bonus quote from Dr. Seuss!
